Frequently asked questions.

When is the best time to complete the course?

You can begin the course at any time although I recommend that the best time to start your course is between 24 and 35 weeks. When you commence the course earlier in your pregnancy, this will give you more time to practice all the tools and techniques that I teach you. however, it is never too late to start the course. If you are further along than 36 weeks, we can arrange for the course to be taught in a way that ensures that you complete all classes before you go into labour, contact me here for this option.

My partner say’s it all sounds a bit ""hippy”. How do I get them on board?

Giving birth will be one of the most memorable day’s in both of your live’s. You will remember it forever! You cannot put a price on your baby’s birth and it should require as much energy and investment as you would when planning your wedding, purchasing your home and buying those bigger ticket items like a bassinet and stroller. Using hypnosis isn’t new, it’s been around and used in different cultures for decades, they just were probably unaware or taught a different name. You and your birth partner will learn and practice hypnosis in the course but will learn so many other tools to accompany this. Your birth partner will leave the course feeling excited, empowered and ready to support you in your labour.

Does my partner attend the classes with me?

Definitely! the course is definitely designed for partners to attend. Your birth companion will play a vital role in your labour and birth. This course will teach them the techniques and tools they need to assist you during this time. The Hypnobirthing Australia™/Hypnobubs™course will equip you BOTH with the tools to use. Your partner will feel confident and empowered.

Will I be “out of it” when hypnobirthing?

No definitely not! Hypnobirthing will teach you to go in and out of hypnosis whenever you choose. You will be aware of your surroundings and what is going on around you but there may be times when you choose not to be aware. There will be periods when you will want to focus entirely on what you and your baby are doing; yet you will still know what's going on around you but may just choose not to pay attention to it. Don’t let hypnosis scare you. It is just a really effective way of deeply relaxing and taking yourself to a place where your body and mind can bring your baby earthside calmly and gently.

How do I talk to my lead maternity carer about hypnobirthing?

In class, you will learn how to create a plan of Birth Preferences, which will help you to communicate your birthing goals and preferences to your lead maternity carer. Having birth preferences in place enables you to have a very clear conversation about what you are hoping to achieve on your birthing day. This discussion will make sure that you and your care provider are on the same page when it comes to your birth wishes.

I have had a traumatic birth in the past or am hoping for a VBAC, should I do the course?

Yes! Even more of a reason to do so. Hypnobirthing is very beneficial for Mums who have special circumstances or any trauma and fears around previous births. and will absolutely try to help you to achieve your vaginal birth. Releasing any fears that you have is extremely important when it comes to birthing. When fear is present during labour it causes stress and tension in the body. The body’s defence is to the ‘fight, flight or freeze’ response which flows on to restricted the uterus from functioning as nature intended. Fear creates tension and tension creates pain. In my hypnobirthing courses, you will learn to regain the trust in your body and see that birth is something to be treasured rather than feared.

What If my birth doesn’t go to plan or I have special circumstances that then require medical intervention? Can I still use hypnobirthing?

Absolutely. One of the key affirmations in hypnobirthing is “I am prepared to meet whatever turn my birthing takes”. The tools that you will learn in your hypnobirthing classes will help you to use relaxation skills that will be useful to both you and your baby, regardless of your birth experience. You will learn to evaluate all the options given to you and to make an informed decision at every step of your pregnancy and birth experience. Helping you to remain calm and in control throughout your birth however it may unfold.

Should I still attend hospital antenatal classes?

The choice is yours. The Hypnobubs™ Positive Birth Program is a very comprehensive course in natural childbirth education. Hospital antenatal courses often cover a lot of information about interventions and medical procedures during birth. In hypnobirthing we learn all about the birth process, what to expect during pregnancy/the onset of labour/birthing, how to release any fears associated with birthing and we learn techniques (relaxation, breathing, visualisations and deepening exercises) to use during labour. Having said that, we are of the belief that ‘knowledge is power’ and the knowledge that you will gain through antenatal classes, along with your hypnobirthing classes, can help you to make informed decisions. So ultimately, the choice is yours whether you choose to attend just our course, or both.

Can I still contact you for advice after the course?

Yes! This is my passion and I am here for you. I will be available for support right up until the birth of your baby.
